In the beginning there were 3...
Our small group met at the Lake Elsinore launch pad on a beautiful Saturday morning. After about a 1/2 hour of "car talk", we set out to explore the Cleveland National Forest as seen behind us.
We had a goal in mind, "To crush our enemies, to see them driven before us, and to hear the lamentations of their women". No, wait...that was Conan the Barbarian's goal! Ours was to feel the sun on our face, enjoy great company, and drive fast!!
Up and out of the Lake Elsinore
community, Thao and I took the lead and pushed forward into the wilderness, Rick & Kathy followed closely behind while Doug & Paula protected our flanks. Blasting through the curves, we were soon at one with the machinery!

A steep climb lead us to fantastic views of the lake and to our 1st stop, The Lookout Roadhouse. The Roadhouse is a favorite stop for riders, but our Z4's felt right at home!

Just up the road from The
Lookout Roadhouse, Rick found a good place to survey our territory. But the adrenaline was pumping so we could not stay long! Besides, we knew that our next challenge was right around the corner! On to Killen Trail !!
Our 1st run on Killen Trail was at cruising speed because we had planned on coming back down in a hurry. I figured it's a good idea to see whats in store for us. Nearly 2 miles of well paved, slightly sloping, tight corners. No cross streets. Yeah! Lets Go!
We stopped to strategize at the turn around point near the end of Killen Trail. In the background you can see the beginning of the trail curving through the hills. We decided that Rick will lead, I'll try to keep up, with Doug following me. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of our return run down the trail. Thao told me "It's time to drive, not take pictures!". And so we drove!! I'll just say this, if you're in the area this trail is not to be missed. It was easily the highlight of the day for all of us! I think Paula is still trembling!!!
Although the Cleveland National Forest is tame compared to some mountain ranges, the sweeping curves were perfect for us to carve through.
mmmmmmmm, candy!!We stopped briefly at the Ortega Country Cottage Candy Store to replenish our energy for the remainder of the drive. They even have a dog that you can pet and he comes to you no matter what name you call him! Talk about service!
Once we continued down the road
Doug and Paula managed to find their way to the middle of the pack. I think he wanted to show us how the 3.0 can dominate the Ortega Highway! Little did he know that it was a setup! You're not going anywhere Doug, the 2.5's have you trapped!!

A quick stop across from the Mission de San Juan Capistrano shows that we are in the company of nice people and nice cars! Gotta love California!

We are soon joined by reinforcements! Curtis (budz4) joined us at Dana Point Harbor for lunch. This line up got many admiring looks and nice comments from innocent bystanders in the parking lot!

Curtis' very nice Toledo Blue 3.0
Eventually the crew headed to Harpoon Henry's for lunch. As Mr. Robin Leach used to say "Champagne wishes and Caviar dreams!". Actually we had shrimp scampi, seared ahi, and stuffed mushrooms with iced tea and soda chasers! But it felt pretty ritzy!!
Our final line up near the surf break at Dana Point Harbor @2pm. What a day!
